sorts of reasons Geoff, all down to the type of file size and data stored on the
tape, whether the data can or cannot be compressed, and if the robot or tape
drive can compress the data.

The difference you see is probably due to varying compressibility of
data. It's also possible that failed or expired backup images take up
space that couldn't be reused.
