Thanks Jasper. I'm using the Dock preference that auto-hides all apps
except the current one. Keeps my workspace nice and clean and now I
realize that this issue with Versions cropped up as soon as I started
using that. Thanks for your quick attention to this.

The patch for this issue landed on our trunk yesterday, so this will
be fixed in the next release.

Occasionally versions goes a bit wonky and complains about folder
lockings and what not, the busy icon is displayed forever and it the
checkout becomes unusable.
The simple remedy for this is to run svn cleanup on the command line,
