I just encountered the same issue myself. svn status was not listing
the file. I edited ~/.subversion/config, and added the line:
global-ignores = *.o *.lo *.la #*# .*.rej *.rej .*~ *~ .#* .DS_Store
(i.e. no ".a")
svn status now works, and so does versions.

Great product, however if you need to contact anyone about Versions,
forget it. They have non-existant
support, even on pre-sales.
So if you have some problem purchasing or issue with your product
forget it. I've contacted them twice via their website and had zero
response from them.
