This is nice, but for some reason Versions always sticks my user id
into the URL. So I follow this recipe, but then I always have to edit
the rpgoldman@ out of the url, which is a nuisance

I have the same complaint. My solution is to just modify the working copy via
Terminal after checking it out:
$ svn switch --relocate http://usern...@example.com http://example.com
/path/to/working/copy
