In my online search for soft body, I did come across Liquid Fusion but I have
never seen it in any of my local shops. I will take a look in Michael's. I
would not want a thick substance but if it is water soluble it should be able
to be thinned if too thick.

Have you tried a product called Liquid Fusion? It is a urethane about the
consistency of Aqua Seal wader repair. Water soluble until set. The
finished product is clear and durable.
I've been recommending Liquid Fusion in workshops for a couple of years,
and people really like the stuff.
