I hope that this is OK to post on VFB, but I just had the greatest
experience with a relatively small mom and pop type fly fishing business
and wanted to spread the word.

So my son's 10th birthday is Thursday, and we had planned to get him a rod
and reel combo. Not a "Walmart special" cheap-o type. but a legitimate,
well-made rod and a reel that could take the abuse of a 10-year-old. We
decided that the Genesis rod and Armor reel from Risen Fly company, while
being a lower-priced rod (100 dollar rod or so) and relatively lower priced
reel (I forget how much it was, but guessing 80 dollars US? maybe?) were
the right choice for my son, after having experience with other rod makes
in their product lineup (I own a 23PS and an ITB, and can vouch for them
being well made graphite rods). Again this is unsolicited, and I have no
personal gain by stating this, and I have no connection with the company
besides being a happy customer.

The "story" is that we pre-ordered the rod and reel combo back at the
beginning of the month, with hopes it would be to us in time for my son's
birthday. Well, as manufacturing timelines would have it. the reel was
delayed, and Risen was going to hold the order until everything was ready.
I reached out to Ryan, the president and owner, and asked if there could be
a split order, and that I'd pay extra for the shipping and handling. He
surprised me by not only jumping on the ball and shipping out everything in
the order except the reel yesterday, a Sunday (and they are a
Christian-rooted company, quite firmly if I do say so), but he waived the
fee for extra s&h, AND he said he threw in an extra birthday gift for my
son, free of charge. I must admit that I have yet to receive this
shipment, so I don't know what the extra gift is, but I mean - anything
over and above is worth a praise in my book!

Their website is risenfly.com and I know they have a loyal customer in me!
Disclaimer - I'm just a happy customer; I'm not advertising for them, not
promoting them *per se*, just stating a good experience I had with them. I
get nothing out of doing so, and I have no connections with them besides
being a happy customer.

Thanks for listening to this story of my experience with a company "doing
it right" - and then some!
-Pete
