Hey all,

I agree with Eric (Yeah! Me too!)

Free is good, but if you are dissatisfied with the service you cannot really go and complain to their service desk. If your free videoblogging tool suddenly stops working for you, you can of course try to improve it, get involved, but sometimes you just want things to work, for someone else to take that responsability. Then Fee is the way to go perhaps.

There is space for both Fee and Free, and I am personally very happy about sites such as Freevlog.org (and Feevlog.com ;)) that try to show you some options.

I love Ourmedia.org - it is a service that works well but it also has several challenges (it is still labelled as in Alpha development, in fact). Blogger works well for some people, and TypePad works well for other people. I have used both, as well as the blogging tools my own company makes, and they all have their use.

One thing about free vs fee that hasn't come up yet in this discussion is: Long term videoblogging. We discussed this during VlogEurope 05 in Amsterdam last weekend, and the thing is: What do you do if you host your site on Dreamhost for instance (I can recommend Dreamhost.com as hosting company. They have a few glitches but overall I am very pleased) and you suddenly cannot or wont pay for the hosting anymore? Boom, the site goes down. What do you do if you host your media on audioblog.com and you decide to stop paying for the service? Boom, your videos disappear (as far as I know, correct me if I am wrong Eric :)).

Fee and Free both have their advantages, and it is very individual as to what works best for you. I agree with Adam Quirk that often it is best to just start out with the Free, at least to figure out if this is something you would like to do on a serious level.

I agree that Freevlog is a tad complicated for some, and I have wondered why no-one has made dollars yet showing people how to create a videoblog using Freevlog. Ryanne and Michael: Perhaps a possible income revenue for Freevlog? To offer customized service for people who just want you to do everything for them and make it Work? ;)

Fee vs Free. I do a bit of both, and I support the development of both. It all leaves the consumer with more choice, whatever your budget is.

Best,

Raymond M. Kristiansen
