SL and virtual world variants are the *real* web 2.0 - extending social media in a 3-D environment. yes they are clunky and have a lot of kruft, but so did the World Wide Web circa 1994... Closed services like Linden Labs' Second Life are like Compuserve and AOL pre-web. As far as growth, if you have not been following SL: before summer they barely had 400k users. On Octobe 18th, they hit 1,000,000 registered users, and now just six weeks later, over 1,750,000 registered users today. ...3M before 2007?
