We use LCC for all our media. It's not perfect, but this arrangement seems to facilitate browsing. Recreational films go in PN1995.9, arranged by genre, then title A3 - Action/Adventure C44 - Children's C55 - Comedy D4 - Detective/Mystery D7 - Drama H6 - Horror M86 - Musical S26 -

Maureen! Alas, here at USC we use just a very simple sequential numbering system for our dvds. The last dvd added to our collection has been assigned the call number LVYDVD 4779, the next one added will be LVYDVD 4780, and so on and so forth. All rather mindless and annoying. :o Cheers,

We have a slightly different approach. Ages ago we moved from Dewey to LC classification for all our media. When it came to the feature films, the cataloger met with me to determine what might be the best, given our collection is in open stacks and heavily browsed. We ended up using PN1993.5
