BUFVC launches pioneering federated search environment
An innovative 'all-in-one' search engine allowing users to access nine
online databases, containing more than 13 million records via a single
entry point, has been launched today by the BUFVC and Royal Holloway,
University of London (http://beta.bufvc.ac.uk).
The BUFVC federated search environment will allow users to easily view
and filter collated results relating to film, television and radio
content. The interactive online research tools offer:
. 'human-friendly' result filters
. intelligently generated 'related records & searches'
. user-friendly icons
. a detailed user history
. an export function.
The search environment will replace the need for researchers to locate
databases and collections through multiple channels and enable creative
discovery of content.
'This unified search of all BUFVC's existing databases... [provides] a
thoroughly tested user-friendly interface with many novel features. It
not only finds unexpected material but also tells the user how close
they are to obtaining the footage or radio material.'
John Ellis, Professor of Media Arts, Royal Holloway, University of London

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
