Jeff, do you recall if Criterion offers a DSL for a semester rather than a
year? Also, it looks like they're not in the business of hosting yet, like
Swank, is that right?

The short version is that studios and major rights holders are NEVER going
to allow any person or institution permission to digitize and stream their
own. Keep in mind they will only allow the streaming on a very limited term
basis so it is not anything that will be up for the long term. I suspect
We prefer to digitize our own copies so we can choose file format, what extras
to include, subtitles, etc. Is there a reason why Criterion insists on sending
MP4's?
Thanks!

Ironically there is parallel discussion on the added fees for using films
in digital format on the Art House Convergence newsgroup. It involves

VLC Media Player is a free (shareware) application that runs on a
computer, and permits playback using the computer's DVD drive of a wide
variety of formats.
I rarely use it, but have used it to play discs from other regions.
It is a reasonable alternative to multi-region players.
deg farrelly,
When we acquire an item with restrictions, such as "site license" or only
users from the purchasing organization (students, faculty, staff) we make
a note in the MARC record and we put a label on the box, with the type
of restriction. That way, the circulation staff should see the label at

guess most their stuff in on HULU but still there is no reason for them not

It would be nice to have them, but the
classroom equipment is not under the library's purview -- it's up
