Hi Vicki,
HBO doesn't currently license its documentaries for streaming and, as you
are a for-profit college, you aren't covered for face-to-face screenings
under section 110 of Copyright. If your students are able to access
physical reserves in a library, that might be your best option for
Hi deg -
I haven't seen this video, but it sounds like it could fulfill at least part of

Actually it is not a documentary but there has been for many years a
problem licensing made for TV films because they use a different standard
contract than theatrical films and complications in rights can arise. Under
no circumstances can one ever charge admission and this may in fact also

Does anyone know who has North American rights to Beijing Blues?

Thanks for the info Jessica. I knew they were fictionalized accounts, so
even though it was only for in-class use to registered students, I was
afraid it might be more difficult to secure rights than for actual
documentaries, which are more often available with PPR. But I didn't
realize the
Hello Everyone,
A patron is looking for this television show Black Survivors of the
Holocaust. He would like to buy it if possible.
The director is David Okeufuna and the narrator is James Earl Jones. It was an
Afro Wisdom film for Channel 4 in 1997.
The alternate title is Hitler's Forgotten

unable to license the HBO films made for TV.

If you only need to use it in class and do not need to stream, you MIGHT
find someone at HBO friendly enough to agree. The contract issue comes into
play when money is involved and my guess is HBO probably does not even know
about the restriction on for profit schools. Alas I don't have a contact
I'm pretty green on non-theatrical rentals but have learned that Swank
doesn't carry Paramount titles.

IF it was Paramount it would be Criterion Pictures USA but the film has a
very complicated release history and is owned by Coppola's American
Zoetrobe films. It had been out of distribution for a long time, I don't
know the current status. If neither Swank nor Criterion USA has it , try

Thank you John, and Elena who suggested one of these titles as well.
We have both in our collection, so I have forwarded that info to the
subject librarian to share with the faculty member.

Alas Suzi Paramount does not own it and thus you can't license it.
Paramount only ever had limited home video rights. Chris I would try
Zoetrobe, they will take theatrical dates and they do own it. I was not
100% sure before but I checked. Just no one ask about BLADE RUNNER that one
is worse.

Many thanks Jessica and Suzi. I appreciate the crowd sourcing,
