guioptions" command, but to no success. I also deleted the .vimrc file, but
again no change. Then, installed vim-X11 again, but nothing happened.

should be able to use Gentium, I believe, but personaly I prefer a fixed font
and use "Bitstream\ Vera\ Sans\ Mono" with excellent results.
If you use also LaTeX set inputenc to utf8x (not simply utf8).

True, that's what I normally do. I suggested Bitstream Vera Sans Mono for
Greek because it's particularly good-looking for Greek, while CFourier New
looks a bit "strange".
