I found a behavior in vim that I don't understand, i.e. either the
interpretation of the documentation is wrong, the documentation is
wrong/not clear, or there is a bug in vim. For more details please

where I first asked for help. In brief, wildcards '*' use in the
'tags' options are not being expanded as the doc suggests, so doing
something like:
set tags+=some_path/*.tags
doesn't add all files ending in .tags to the 'tags' option.
In the afore mentioned thread someone has already proposed a
workaround that solve this issue for me, I am posting just to point
out the issue so it can get clarified/fixed/etc.
