MacVim will not open window

Hi I'm running the latest OS-X version (10.9.1). I installed macvim via homebrew. When i start macvim it looks like its running but cannot open an a window, hence I cannot edit anything. The log file shows the following 2014-01-13 13:12:46,213 MacVim[4365]: -[MMAppController init]@272: Failed
