It's easy to see if it's a 128K or 512K. According to the date it should be
a Mac 128K, however it can be upgraded.
First check the floppy drive: if you see a red light inside then it's a
400KB drive.

I have a dust free HEPA filtered hood in my lab so I could do this type of
operation. Your pictures would be vital in this regard. So the trick is
simply to remove the parking mechanism completely. How innovative.

The 400K obviously needs servicing first given you have disk insertion
issues.
If you don't do this then you will permanently damage the drive.
The floppy disk needs to go in as smooth as with an 800K or Superdrive if
the drive is properly serviced ( = cleaned, greased and lubricated ).
