I've accepted that I'll never get around to playing with my MacPortable again. Last time I tried to hook it up, it woodn't boot; I think time has caught up with the caps. Surprisingly, I need a couple of 18 year old files off of the still working hard drive. Unfortunately, I can't send the drive

Perhaps easier: an electrical connector to connect the macportable drive to a scsi cage?
