I am trying to restore my Mac IIci and have run into a problem with the
replacement hard drive.
I found an exact match for the Quantum Prodrive 105Mb drive the machine started
with, when I tried to format the drive with my Allied Peripherals Boot floppy
that came with my original drive,
The original drive was recognized by the utility, so I don't think it is
cabling or the controller. The board has not been recapped although it boots
without error chimes.

I found that the drive was pulled from a server and is not Apple branded. Can

I found an archive site that has a StuffIt compressed image file. I can
read/write Mac floppies with MacDrive on my Windows machine. I will look into
writing img files from Windows.

Sorry for the long delay...
I put the uncooperative Quantum Pro drive in a external case and connected to
the now working IIci. So far the HD setup tool cannot see the drive at all.
The drive is spinning up and I don't see any termination issues. Though I want
to check my SCSI Id setting which

I’m rebuilding a Mac IIci, starting with a recapped mainboard. The boots with
a normal chime and the 13”
RBG monitor powers up, although the display remains blank. The PRAM battery is
new as well.

Good suggestions all.
Prior to sending the board in for recapping, the video worked perfectly with no
artifacts.
I will have to scrutinize the board around the video section to look solder
joint bridging or contamination.
As far as testing the monitor, what could I plug into it?

I will scrutinize the mainboard around the video circuitry and look for damage
or soldier bridges. The board was cleaned before the recapping service sent the
board back.
To test the video I will look for another monitor or a vga adapter.

Can’t find the Griffin adapter although cables online has a HD15 to DB15
adapter. So, all is needed is to switched the lines around? No signal

I installed the video card and the machine boots with a working display now.
The keyboard and sound work.
I will try connecting an external SCSI drive next.

Hello,
I’m trying to resolve a SCSI conflict with two external hard drives plugged
into my IIci. The SCSI chain and termination seem okay and I can boot with
either drive running, just not both together. When i have both drives running,
the machine will boot and then freeze on a blank screen
I did use get info on each drive to check the ID; for some reason one drive is
stuck on “6” and I can’t switch to another ID from the drive. The selector
does not have any effect.

This drive had worked before, I pulled the case apart to check the wires and
nothing looks out of place. I will to ID the jumper blocks but the markings on
the board are not very ledgible.

After running diagnostics and repair on the drive with Norton Utilities and
swapping the SCSI cable and terminator locations; both drives now boot up
successfully.
Backing up now in case the magic goes away...

Hello,
I have rebuilt my Mac IIci with system 7.0, and now the machine boots
successfully; video and external SCSI are working.
Booting from power off works fine with nominal boot up chime and sequence of
screens.
However, when I restart from the Desktop, the starts to boot up but the screen
I’ll zap the PRAM, although the battery is only a month old.

I just installed Acrobat 3.0 on my system 7 Mac IIci machine. When I try to
invoke Distiller, I get a system error “Sorry a system error has occurred.
Acrobat Exchange 3.0 Bad f-Line instruction”, and the machine freezes.
Only causes I could think of are low memory or software conflict.
