I went over to both Apple's ftp- and website, looking for the (older)
'Inside Macintosh' volumes. No result. Does anybody on the list know where
to find them on the web?

electronic form for download or viewing.
My local public library has 'em, though. :-)

They aren't.
You can occasionally purchase them on eBay, which is where I got vols 1-6.
