What exactly is it asking you to update? You should carefully review what is
being asked on the screen as it might have to do with something other than an
actual app update. I don’t recall ever getting notified after opening an app
that I should update the app.

Triple-tap the App Store icon, and choose Updates. That will open the App Store
on your account page. Touch the middle of the screen and flick down with 3
fingers to refresh the page so all updates will be available.
