Even more frustrating, there is an update to the YouTube app today, guess what?
You guessed it, the problem for voiceover users has NOT been fixed!

Yes, this is quite annoying for sure. I have submitted feedback to YouTube on
this problem, and I hope others will do the same. There is supposedly a
workaround where, when you open the app for the first time, you turn, voiceover
off, and then swipe down with your finger and then re-enable
