The subject line says it all. I have a couple iTunes gift cards and I'm
wondering if they can be used to purchase iBooks, or if I can only purchase the
audiobooks in the iTunes Store. I am thinking that you cannot use the iTunes
gift card to buy iBooks, but can someone set me straight?

Yes you can. in fact, you can use it for anything iTunes related e.g. apps,
ibooks, albums, audiobooks, movies, music, etc.

Once you redeam your card, the money goes into the balance associated
with your apple ID. I got a gift card of $50 this Christmas and used
it to purchase two somewhat expensive iBOOKS using the iBOOKS app. It
worked flawlessly. happy reading and happy new year.

That's correct. Anything you can buy from the iTunes store or the app store
can be paid for with an iTunes gift card.
