the phone as new, I lost my old settings. Guess I should've restored from my
old phones backup.

You'll have to go into Settings, Mail, etc. and find your account. There you
can set whether to archive or delete messages.

Set the rotor to actions then swipe down to the trash option then double tap
the trash option to delete the message
