Fair enough, but it could be argued that a disk should be round and
flat, which flash storage ain't!

and buttons should be round. Computer terminology is full of terms that have
become more generic over time. I don't we should chastise someone for using the
word disk to refer to the solid state drive in the iPhone.

More than likely it is talking about your iCloud storage. You can go to
settings iCloud and manage your iCloud. Usually photo stream is on and that
doesn't need to be on if you back up pictures on a computer.
