My husband once looked at the data used when he'd stream Pandora while he was
out and about, and he said it wasn't too bad. I think he was also using Pandora
1, which is higher quality than what you normally get with Pandora.

I suspect you ran into iTunes Radio. This is a streaming radio service
from Apple similar to Pandora and other such services. I don't know how
much data it takes if you're streaming over cellular but maybe this
information is on the web somewhere or someone else can post it.
