I confirm that KNfBReader is also sluggish on my ipad mini retina. Apparently
it is not declared as supported by KNFBReader developers as yet.

A buddy of mine installed KNFB Reader on his iPad Mini with the retina display
after seeing the KNFB Reader on my 5S. He can get reasonably good scans with
it despite the lack of flash, but unlike my KNFB Reader on the 5S, moving
around the main KNFB Reader screen on the iPad is really slug
