I still can't get the hang of using auto-correct. When I tap the word I
want, I never see it as being corrected when I read the text back. Is it
better to use predictive? That doesn't seem to work for me either. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

Next press the delete button until the iPhone makes the sound telling you you
have a misspelled word.
Then swipe left or right to the suggestion that you want and then double tap.

Hi everyone.
I have just started to use direct touch typing and am wondering about the best
way to use auto-correct.
As I type, I can hear the first prediction or auto-correct suggestion but,
sometimes it's not the right one and I'd like to see the other options it
suggests. I have not found
