Yes, that "rubber flap door" got me and took somebody else's fingernails to
open it. J

Grace,

If you don't find the mute switch, it may be that your phone is in a case.
If it is, there should be a little rubber flap door over it. Otter box
cases cover the mute switch.

Ok, I will try. Thank you very much.

Just in case, is not possible to ask siri to do it for me?

I'll try.

First, find your two volume buttons, on the left side of the phone when you
are holding it normally (home button up, power port facing you). Now, just
above those two round buttons is a long, thin ridge. This ridge is the mute
switch, and it can be pushed either toward the screen, or away from the
screen, toward the rear panel of the phone. Take a fingernail or finger pad
and gently push it one way or the other. It is probably muted right now,
meaning that it should move toward the screen. To be clear, the ridge runs
parallel with the side of the phone, and the direction in which it can be
moved is perpendicular to that. Put another way, if you were to hold the
phone so the volume buttons and mute switch are facing you, the switch can
be moved left or right.

I'm sorry, I am sure that your explanation is clear for more experienced

Would you please make it much easier for me? Thank you,

Sorry, I meant the front as the screen, the back as the rear panel where the
camera, logo, and so on are. If you place the phone flat on a table, with
the screen facing up and the home button toward you, the switch can move
toward or away from the tabletop. Hopefully that makes more sense.

I'm not sure if I understand your explanation. What are the front and the
back of the phone? Is the front the upper part and the back the lower part
of the phone?

The mute switch will not affect VoiceOver's speech or sounds. Try flipping
the switch; it moves from the back of the phone to the front, or vice versa,
not up and down. When it is nearer the back of the phone, that is muted, and
near the front is un-muted. An easy way to tell is to plug it in; if it
makes a noise, it is not muted, but if it is muted it will vibrate twice.

As far as I know I did nothing. If I press the home button it says that I
have some notifications and the time. Apparently, the pone is not mute.

I know this might be basic, but in the interest of covering all the bases,
did you flip the mute switch? If not, try going to Settings > Sound, and
making sure your sound volume is up, and that the ringer is set to vibrate
and ringtone.

Hello,

Suddenly, my 4S began vibrating instead of ringing. What can I do to change
it? Can I ask Siri to do it? If so, what should I say?
