No you don't seem to be missing anything you cancel the alarm by unlocking the
phone

Actually, you can ask Siri to delete a specific alarm, e.g. "Hey Siri, delete
my 7 AM alarm"
you can also ask Siri to delete all alarms "Hey Siri, delete all alarms"
