Are you sure you downloaded it and not just added it to your "My Music"? You
have to make them available offline to be considered as being downloaded.

I did try this and it works. I don't understand why I have to disable off-line
content to see my songs that I've already downloaded. In my mind downloaded
songs that I paid for should be considered off-line content. I assume when my
trial ends and I do not subscribe to Apple

Try double tapping on categories and turn off the switch to show offline music
only.
