If you have a bluetooth keyboard which has been paired with your iOS device,
turn off the bluetooth keyboard. If not, double-tap on the edit field to
activate it and the keyboard again.

This same thing has happened to me, but I don't own a bluetooth keyboard.
And yes, I had to reboot the phone to get the keyboard back.

Paul, that has happened to me before. The problem could be this, the phone is
seeing your external keyboard. Either turn the external keyboard off or press
the upper right button on the external keyboard and your phone keyboard should
appear. Let me know if that doesn't help.
