There's a setting specifically for deciding this. Go into the "Home Scren"
area of settings. There, you can choose whether newly downloaded apps are
added to your home screens or simply put in the library. Other settings in
there let you decide if notification badges are shown in the library as
wel
are you using Face ID? because when you have it on you can use face ID to
authenticate instead of your Apple ID password. basically it's asking you to
double click your power button to purchase the app.

I assume you created an Apple Id which would be an email address and a
password? I also assume you either have a credit card associated with said
Apple Id or that you purchased maybe a gift card so you have a balance which
allows you to get paid apps.

I will tell you how I do it.
1. From the App Store, double tap on search.
2. Towards the top of the screen, there is a search field. Double tap on this
and type what you are looking for.
3. Now is the tricky part. If the app you were looking for comes up, then all
you have to do is flick right u
