and then just be on public transport and have upcoming intersections announced?

Application doesn't use map, you can load POIs into appliaction from text
databases (e.g. Loadstone, OpenStreetMap) or create own in location where
you are.
Also yoy can create route manually from existing POIs or record route (pois
will be saved automatically).
You can check tutorial for
Geo Reader is an app that lets you find points of interest around you or add
your own but it is not a GPS app for traffic etc.
