I have learned that when I think I lose something with an update, to check
Settings. So, Paula, have you checked settings to see if Automatic Updates is
on? If it is, of course, then, you can turn it off, and end of problem.

In the Settings, iTunes and AppStore preferences, make sure you have unchecked
both applications and updates.
Also note that if you share an account with someone else, and they update an
app, if applications is checked, you'll get the newer version.

Took me ages to find this, so which ones did you set, I turned off two
itemsi n there
settings/itunes and appstore; automatic updates:- music, apps, updates.
