I had this too when I first installed iOS 8 Beta back in June and after I
deleted Whats App and redownloaded it it was much improved.

As far as what's app I am lucky in that department, I guess I am not noticing
anything but in messages I am noticing that sometimes to turn off dictation I
have to do a double tap which I never used to have to do that.
