Hello List,

A Skype update just appeared for me in the App Store. There are no major
changes, the UI is pretty much unchanged. Here is the App Store link
followed by the improvements and a few comments:

What's New in Version 4.10

Call quality improvements:

. Make HD quality video calls from your iPhone 5.

. General improvements to call quality and stability.

General fixes and improvements:

. A redesigned country code picker on the dial pad.

I haven't made any calls yet so I can't speak to the quality improvements
they mention and I don't have an iPhone 5 so I can't comment on the new HD
Video calls, either. I am surprised that this feature doesn't exist for the
4S which has basically the exact same camera, I guess the A5 processor
doesn't have the power to handle them.

The new country code picker is nice. When you double tap on the Call Phones
tab, you have a very clean screen with the DialPad.

Underneath the *, the 0 and the Hash (pound symbol) are 3 buttons:

SMS button (on the left under the Star)

Call button (in the middle above he home key and under the 0)

Delete button (on the right and under the hash).

At the very top right under the battery status is an Addressbook button
which gives you access to your Contacts on the phone, it is also right above
the 3 on the DialPad.

To the left of that is the edit field where the phone number you type shows
up. It starts by default with a +1 on my phone since I am in Canada and the
country code is 1 just like the States.

Underneath the phone number field and on the left (just above the 1 on the
DialPad) is the Country Code button.

you can also find it by touching Addressbook at the top right and swipe
right once) or from the 1 on the DialPad swipe left once.

If you double tap it a list of countries in alphabetical order shows up and
you can navigate this very quickly since it has a Table Index on the right
edge, so if you, for example, want to insert +63 for the Philippines, you
can just flick down in the Table Index until you get to "P" and then quickly
find the Philippines. Double tap on the country you want and you will be
returned to the DialPad, now +63 or whatever other country you picked will
be in the edit field and you just have to dial the rest of the number.

One small oddity is if you touch the edit field where the number you dialed
shows up. It seems that as soon as you touch it it puts the cursor onto the
+ at the very beginning of the field. You can then lift your finger and do a
double tap to go to the end of the text field or double tap again to go back
to the

This seems slightly non-standard since most edit fields would say "is
editing" and your cursor would be at the end.

Of course you have to double or split tap numbers on the DialPad as is the
case in all VoIP apps I have tried, touch typing does not work, but I
suspect that that is an Apple limitation.

Regards,

Sieghard
