Well, it cost me five dollars, but I got my voice is back. What I finally 
decided to do was to try to purchase another voice. I really didn't want any 
more voices, but I decided to purchase the Sharon voice. Maybe she will grow on 
me, although I rather doubt it. Smile. Even though I thought my device was 
already associated with iTunes, since I have been through that process while 
doing upgrade, apparently something got lost in translation. Because when I 
purchased this voice, I had to go back into the App Store, reconfirm my credit 
card by entering the three digit code, and then OK everything. Once that 
happened, the purchase went through. After that, I was able to restore voices I 
had previously purchased. Go figure
