Hello. I find Disney Plus very accessible on the iPhone. When playing a movie
or show, pause it with a 2 finger double tap. Then, flick or swipe to the right
until you find the audio and subtitles menu, double tap on this. Once this
screen appears, flick through the options until you find English audio
description, or it may say English AD. Double tap on this to turn on audio
description. Another option to do this is to use the Aira service, have them
log-in to your account and do the switch on their end. The great thing about
Disney Plus is once you set it on one platform, your preferences are retained
on all operating systems. To view a list of all described titles on Disney
Plus, visit:
www.acb.org/adp
There will be a link for Streaming Services, and Disney Plus.

Good luck,
Wayne Merritt

OK, here’s the text of the article. Note, I’m just presenting the text of the
article. Although I’m no fan of President Trump, I do find this article to be a
bit unnecessarily inflammatory, and I question it’s being posted to this list,
although Richard did warn everyone in the subject line that it’s a political
article.

Trump makes one last effort to cut Social Security, maximize hurt to the
disabled

WASHINGTON, DC - MAY 26: U.S. President Donald Trump makes remarks during an
event on protecting seniors with diabetes, in the Rose Garden at the White

House on May 26, 2020 in Washington, DC. The United States is closing in on
100,000 deaths in less than four months caused by the coronavirus.

In the middle of the Trump pandemic, in which untold millions of people who
survive the disease could end up disabled for life, the Trump administration

Announced Friday that it's finalizing rules meant to do nothing but make it
harder for disabled people to receive Social Security, and to endanger the
Social Security

benefits of disabled people who are already approved. In the first
regulation, it's changing the appeals process by replacing impartial,
independent administrative

law judges (ALJs) with internal agency lawyers, making it much more difficult
for

  people to navigate the process.

They have also sent their proposal that will dramatically increase
"continuing disability reviews" (the process during which those receiving
disability must prove they're still disabled)

to the Office of Management and Budget for approval as a final rule. The
administration admitted it is about dropping people out of the program ,
"saving"

$2.6 billion. It would mean earlier and more frequent reviews for people on
disability, likely older people who are physically unable to continue their

work. This is simply, in the words of Sen. Ron Wyden, "harassment of people
with disabilities" that puts Americans at "greater risk of falling through the
cracks."

House Democrats on the Ways and Means Committee blasted

the final rule on cutting out judges, which is set to take effect on Dec. 16.
"For nearly two years, we’ve sounded the alarm that this change would erode

due process for Social Security and Supplemental Security Income applicants
and beneficiaries and threaten their access to their earned benefits. The rule

puts unqualified agency staff in control of deciding appeals hearings and
contradicts the congressional intent of the law governing such proceedings."

The rule would remove administrative law from taking up standard cases,
conducting hearings, and issuing decisions on applications for disability
benefits—all

responsibilities currently reserved for them. The ALJ union

responded early this year, calling the proposal a violation of current law
and Supreme Court precedent, saying it would "effectively subject the entire
administrative

adjudicative process under performance appraisal control by the agency."

These two rules are just Trump's kick in the teeth to vulnerable people. The
new Biden administration and/or Congress will have to spend time and energy

unwinding these rules, which have no other purpose than making life more
difficult for people who are already hurting. As with every goddamned thing with

everyone in Trump's orbit, the cruelty is the point.

RE: Warning, political article link included concerning disabled person's receiving Social Security

2020-11-16 Thread Christopher Chaltain

In the first regulation,
it's changing the appeals process by replacing impartial, independent
administrative

law judges (ALJs) with internal agency lawyers, making it much more difficult
for

people to navigate the process.

They have also sent their proposal that will dramatically increase "continuing
disability reviews" (the process during which those receiving disability must
prove they're still disabled)

to the Office of Management and Budget for approval as a final rule. The
administration admitted it is about dropping people out of the program ,

"For nearly two years, we’ve sounded the alarm that this change would erode

due process for Social Security and Supplemental Security Income applicants and
beneficiaries and threaten their access to their earned benefits. The rule

puts unqualified agency staff in control of deciding appeals hearings and
contradicts the congressional intent of the law governing such proceedings."

The rule would remove administrative law from taking up standard cases,
conducting hearings, and issuing decisions on applications for disability
benefits—all

responsibilities currently reserved for them. The ALJ union

responded early this year, calling the proposal a violation of current law and
Supreme Court precedent, saying it would "effectively subject the entire
administrative

adjudicative process under performance appraisal control by the agency."

Re: Attention, Easier Way to Play SiriusXM

2020-11-16 Thread Alan Lemly
Shirley,

Were you able to log into your Sirius account with the StarPlayrX app? There
isn't a lot to figure out once your logged in. All the available channels are
presented in categories and as you drill down on them, the channels are listed
in text lists with the channel number provided. I find it much easier to get
info about my available channels using this app and I can then ask Alexa to
play them on my Echo.

I've not been able to do much with the app as far as my phone goes. I can tell
my echo device to play a specific channel but when opening the app on my phone,
I am not sure how to make it work. I was able to read the list of holiday
channels.

Hi richard,
I have the SE watch, and I did have the mail Siri voice working. But I didn’t
like it, so I switched back to Samantha. It was not working well. Kind of
choppy and high-pitched and just not at all what I wanted. But it did work this
is the cellular model of the se.

Re: Attention, Easier Way to Play SiriusXM

2020-11-16 Thread Shirley Baker
I've not been able to do much with the app as far as my phone goes. I can tell
my echo device to play a specific channel but when opening the app on my phone,
I am not sure how to make it work. I was able to read the list of holiday
channels.

RE: VO voices on Apple Watch series 6

2020-11-16 Thread Richard Turner
Hello again,
After spending a long time with an Apple Accessibility support person, who was
great!, I'm left with a question.

For anyone successfully using the Siri Voice for VoiceOver on their watch, do
you have the cellular model, or the WiFi/GPS model?

Mine is the WiFi/GPS model and this does not work, but the support person' has
the cellular model and it works easily for him, so he would like to know as
well as nothing states this feature requires the cellular model.

Thanks,

Richard

I have Gordon from Australia set as my Siri voice on my phone. On the Series 4
watch I used to have, Siri used the default Samantha voice, but on my Series 6,
the Gordon voice is used. NO idea why it is able to use the voice from the
phone now and not before. Perhaps it has to do with the faster processor and
innards in the Series 6.

Best,

How to Take Screenshots on Apple TV, LifeWire.com

2020-11-16 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I found the following most useful this past weekend when I wanted to capture
a stunning view of the Galaxy from the Science Channel and use it as a
background image on my iPad Pro.

By the way, despite the wording in the article, the entire process is 100%
VoiceOver accessible.

Enjoy,

How to Take Screenshots on Apple TV, LifeWire.com
Ways to Take Apple TV Screenshots
Use a Mac to capture Apple TV screenshots
by Jonny Evans
Updated on February 14, 2020

When you are eager to tell friends about great games, discuss fun apps, or
get troubleshooting support, you may want to share what's happening with a
screenshot of your Apple TV. Before tvOS 11 and macOS High Sierra, the
screenshot process was complicated, and it required the Xcode developer
utility. With the release of tvOS and High Sierra, the process to capture
the screen of your Apple TV using your Mac became simpler.
Information in this article applies to 4th-generation Apple TV and Apple TV
4K running on tvOS 11 or later and Macs with macOS Catalina (10.15) through
macOS High Sierra (10.13). A workaround for older Apple TVs is included.

Make Apple TV Screenshots
If your Mac has macOS High Sierra or later and your Apple TV operates tvOS
11 or higher, you can make a screenshot of the image on your Apple TV using
a Mac. Both the Mac and the Apple TV must be on the same Wi-Fi network. If
they are the same, you're ready to take a screenshot.

To check the network on the Apple TV, go to Settings > Network. Then, to
compare the network to the one your Mac uses, on the Mac, go to System
Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi.

Here's how to take a screenshot:
1.
Launch the QuickTime Player app on the Mac. It is located in the
Applications folder.
2.
At the top of the QuickTime Player screen, go to File and select New Movie
Recording, which opens a window on the Mac showing live video from the Mac's
camera.
3.
Hover the mouse over the window until you see the red recording button.
Click the small arrow to the right of the red button, then select Apple TV
in the Camera section of the pop-up menu.
4.
Enter the code that appears on the Apple TV in the corresponding field on
the Mac to make the connection. The Apple TV screen appears on the Mac
screen.
5.
To take a screenshot of the Apple TV image on your Mac, press
Shift+Command+4.

The Xcode Workaround for Older Operating Systems
You can take Apple TV screenshots with a Mac in older versions of the
operating systems, but it takes more work.
1.
Connect the Apple TV to your Mac using a USB-C cable. Plug the Apple TV into
a power source, then connect it to the television using an HDMI cable.
2.
Download Xcode from the Mac App Store. Xcode is Apple's development software
that developers use to create applications for iOS, tvOS, watchOS, and
macOS. You're only going to use Xcode to capture screenshots on Apple TV.
3.
Launch Xcode with the Apple TV turned on and connected to the Mac. Click
Window > Devices in the menu bar in Xcode. Select Apple TV and click Take
Screenshot.

The screenshots are stored wherever your Mac regularly stores any other kind
of screenshot, usually on the desktop.

I have a Ring Pro video doorbell at home as well as a Nest Hello at the
back/delivery door of my retail store.
Both work quite well, I am curious what you find didn't work with the Ring app,
I find it very accessible with Voiceover and haven't really found anything
which is a problem.
The nice thing with Ring is that if you have an Amazon Echo Show, the Alexa
smart speaker with a display, you can connect them and once it's done all you
have to say is "Alexa, how me the fron tdoor" provided you call your doorbell
Front Door and a few seconds later a 2-way audio and video connection is
established. I know the video may not be of use to you, but you can then freely
speak to whoever might be there.
In the iOS app you can set it up so that if you tap on the doorbell it
instantly opens the life view as well although so far I noticed that by default
the speaker and microphone are not enabled, I assume there might be a setting
fgor this, but I haven't found it yet. In any case, both microphone and speaker
buttons are clearly labelled and double tapping on them enable them.
I hadn't really used Ring for quite some time since I had one of the original
first generation doorbells and by now the battery was so bad on it that it
always said live view was disabled and I had to first charge the battery even
though it was also hard wired, but during the last Amazon Prime Days in October
I couldn't resist the 50% discount on a Ring Pro doorbell and Echo Show 5
bundle for $199 Canadian, probably about $149 US and I just had my electrician
install the doorbell. It's not difficult to do especially since I already had
the oldone there, but I wanted to make sure my transformer which is over 20
years old provided the currect voltage so I thought I ask him to do it since he
could easily read the manual and measure the voltage.
I recently paid him over $20,000 to do the entire electrical wireing in my new
store so he did this one for free and it only took him maybe 20 or 25 minutes.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Hi,
I'm just wondering if anyone knows of an outdoor security camera or doorbell
with camera that works well with the iphone?
I had a chance to try my parent's ring version but found many of the buttons
weren't spoken with voice over.
Thanks for any suggestions

RE: VO voices on Apple Watch series 6

Well, Wayne, you are very lucky.
When I turn on the Siri Voice on the watch, it turns off again.
I guess it is time to sit on hold with Apple Accessibility.

Best,
Wayne

You still have to type the numbers, but you don't need to type the colon
between the hours and minutes. You just need to type the four numbers.

Also, be sure you have audio descriptions turned on on your iPhone under the
Accessibility settings.Once it is on for any program on Disney plus, it will
automatically play for any program that has it, so you only need to do the

Re: VO voices on Apple Watch series 6

2020-11-16 Thread Wayne Merritt
I have Gordon from Australia set as my Siri voice on my phone. On the
Series 4 watch I used to have, Siri used the default Samantha voice,
but on my Series 6, the Gordon voice is used. NO idea why it is able
to use the voice from the phone now and not before. Perhaps it has to
do with the faster processor and innards in the Series 6.

Best,
Wayne

RE: Searching in the Instacart App

2020-11-16 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND
Interesting. I am getting different results from both of you.

In the past, I have used the method pointed out by Cait. However, now when I
tap on this search button, it brings up the list of sales instead of the search
box.

I also get different tabs along the bottom of the screen than Richard mentions.
I currently do not have an order in the works, but next time I will do some
more experimenting.

Does anyone know how to get the list of available stores off of the main screen
once you have started a cart at a particular store?

Thanks,
Pam

Another approach is shown here:

after you have fully entered the store in which you are shopping, you will find
across the bottom of the screen these buttons: Shop, explore, and Buy it Again.
At times I also find a button labeled Savings among this group of buttons.

Double tap Explore. You will be taken to a screen with the heading Explore.
Beneath that heading you will find the word Search followed by the name of the
store and an ellipsis. Double tap there. Then, you’re in the edit field. Type
or dictate the name of the item and proceed as you usually do.

Hope this helps.

After you select the store you want by double tapping on the store name, the
search function is there, a few swipes to the right. Double tap on the search
and the edit box will pop up for you to either dictate your search or type it
in.

Re: Attention, Easier Way to Play SiriusXM

2020-11-16 Thread Wayne Merritt
There's a lot to like about the starPlayrX app, but there are also a
number of things missing from it that are in the regular siriusXM app.
Such as: ability to jump from song to song, the "Go live" button to
quickly jump to the currently playing live time on a track or
broadcast, and favorites. Granted, I highly wish the regular Sirius
app used the rotor actions like many other apps do with favorites. As
of yet, that is my only real gripe with the Sirius app. It can be
cumbersome to use if you are new, but I've gotten quite comfortable
with it over the last 6 months. Not taking anything away from this
free app people have found. I would like to see the free app develop
further. Surely it is possible to be free, simple, but also offer
things for the intermediate/advanced users.

Be well,
Wayne Merritt

Re: Setting favorites using StarPlayrX presets was RE: Attention, Easier Way to Play SiriusXM

2020-11-16 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi Chris,

Thanks for pointing out that All Stars is sometimes labeled as Channels when
returning to the main screen. Regarding those three channels automatically
included under All Stars or any channel you've added there that you later want
to remove, you can drill down on that channel until it is playing and then turn
off the Preset button in the upper right corner and the channel will be removed
from the All Stars favorites list.

This app is making SiriusXM much easier to use with VoiceOver since it uses
categories and word lists to present the information. I especially like that it
includes both the channel number and name in its lists. This makes it a great
source for identifying the ever changing channels and for asking a digital
assistant like Alexa to play a particular channel number.

Easier Way to Play SiriusXM

Hi Alan, thanks for figuring this out! A couple of things to note:

1, After double tapping on All Stars, there are 3 channels listed before you
get to your list of presets. So if you start swiping and find other channels
instead, do not give up, keep swiping your presets are there. You can also do a
four finger single tap to go to the bottom of the screen and just swipe
backwards up through your presets.

2, If you double tap on All Stars, then hit the back button to go back to the
Categories page, you will notice that you will have Channels and All Channels,
and Channels will be selected. Channels is the same as All Stars, for some
reason, when it is selected, the name just changes from All Stars to Channels.
Hope this solves the issue of All Stars sometimes disappearing.

Thanks again Alan for spending the time to figure out the preset saga!

Re: accessibility of disney plus

2020-11-16 Thread Wayne Merritt
Hello. I find Disney Plus very accessible on the iPhone. When playing
a movie or show, pause it with a 2 finger double tap. Then, flick or
swipe to the right until you find the audio and subtitles menu, double
tap on this. Once this screen appears, flick through the options until
you find English audio description, or it may say English AD. Double
tap on this to turn on audio description. Another option to do this is
to use the Aira service, have them log-in to your account and do the
switch on their end. The great thing about Disney Plus is once you set
it on one platform, your preferences are retained on all operating
systems. To view a list of all described titles on Disney Plus, visit:
www.acb.org/adp
There will be a link for Streaming Services, and Disney Plus.

Good luck,

binoral mic kit for iPhone?

2020-11-16 Thread goshawk on horseback
hello all,
does anyone know if there are any really high quality sets of binaural mics,
that can be used with an iPhone?
I am looking to wildlife record whilst out riding, so they need to have a good
response, and be able to pick up sound from a distance. I can't really use
anything handheld, as my hands are taken up with the reins.

You still have to type the numbers, but you don't need to type the colon
between the hours and minutes. You just need to type the four numbers.

I have tried this method but it is really cumbersome. But will try again. The
old way of swiping was much easier.

Hi, Alison.
The clock is messed up, too, so I've had trouble adding new alarms. I think the
format is hh:mm. So if I want an alarm for 10:30 I have to type in the ten,
then colon, then thirty, and finally swipe over to choose whether I want the AM
or PM button.

HTH,

accessibility of disney plus

2020-11-16 Thread martinnelson42
Hello: I recently subscribed to Disney Plus and I find the ability to access
the menus to change language and to turn on audible description very
daunting. With Jaws on the computer it seems inaccessible. On the I phone
with great effort I am able to find these menus. I am wondering what
experiences other users have had.

Thank you for any input.

Re: entering times on the iPhone using IOS 14

2020-11-16 Thread dani pagador
Hi, Alison.
The clock is messed up, too, so I've had trouble adding new alarms. I
think the format is hh:mm. So if I want an alarm for 10:30 I have to
type in the ten, then colon, then thirty, and finally swipe over to
choose whether I want the AM or PM button.

HTH,
Dani

2020-11-16 Thread CJ & AA MAY
At the moment the only way I seem to be able to enter a start and end time
using the calendar app on my iPhone is tgo do so via Siri. There is an edit
field but I’m finding it tricky to use. Any tips?
