The latest Virtuoso open source version is 05.00.3023 release in December
2007 containing a number of enhancement and fixed in the RDF and SPARQL
support. I would recommend you update to this latest version to see if this
resolves the problem

I'm running Virtuoso 5.0 (Version 05.00.3009-pthreads from the
virtuoso-t output).
Also, if rdfs:subClassOf . rdfs:subClassOf . is in
the ruleset "sample"
then the query
define input:inference "sample" select * where {?s rdfs:subClassOf };
does not return ... is this expected behavio
