That's what I was thinking!
The price of fame.. :)
It won't get easier, either. I've seen Microsoft people recommending VNC for
use as a remote tool and for GUI console access to pre-XP/.NET systems.

Dilan,
The short answer is no.
The long answer is, there may be some workarounds easily possible, depending on
your needs.
If you *can* access the registry, but prefer not to stick data in there
permanently, you may want to try the trick of putting the data in there and
removing it when done.
Just wanted to let everyone know that my posting rate here is probably going to
continue to drop a bit.. which may be seen as good news or bad news, depending
on your point of view. :)
I'm doing more work and have also become an MVP for Terminal Services, so my
available time is dropping rapidly.
Hello,
We are running VNC at our school and we do not wish for the client to be
able to "Kill all clients".
There is nothing in the documentation on how to diable this option in
the registry.
Thankyou
William

It looks like the firewall is blocking all stateful connections. The logon
screen you are getting is simply a web page served by VNC's built in web server;
when you try to log on, it shoots you to port 5900 and tries to establish a
persistent connection, just like the VNCViewer applet. So in nei

The more populare you get the more you can expect to see such things. I
remember when linux first started and I decided to help in #linux on IRC.
LOL the more popular linux got the more people came in asking FAQ #1 2 and
3.

Before trying this myself, I would like to know if anyone has managed to compile a
custom VNC server that runs by itself without having to store settings in the registry
or anywhere else. Since I haven't even attempted this, is this feasible; may be with
a few command line switches, perhaps?.

It's a problem of client AND server.
The server check resize and terminates connection with client.

Folks, I tried to make vnc start as a non-root and I had little luck.
Could anyone please help me?
The script runs perfectly from interactive shell. but when I am running
it from rc.d, it comes out with the xauth not found in the path error.
The system is Solaris 8.

Hi there,
I've already posted this message in another thread, but I think the problem is worth
starting it here again in a thread of its own:

I suppose it depends on the definition of local and remote. I was using local to mean
the PC running WinVNC although that PC is remote to me! The remote PC is the one using
the browser or viewer.
So, using that definition the remote PC is behind a firewall that I don't control and

Thanks for the input. It turned out I was stupidly using the wrong
static version of sh! Final version (never say final!) is now... all
working OK except for Irix, where I still haven't got my head around
Windows Manager.

I've been drawing up my wish list for RFB for some time now.
Here's the current draft:

I am confused, in your other post you said that you the remote computer

can't reach it with a telnet client. Then you said that you _can_ get a
login screen?

How does VNC work with smart card authentication? Is it only available with
single sign-on/LDAP or is it something that can be checked via the remote
machine?

Next thing
Are there any plans to update the RFB protocol support things like
resoloution and colour depth switching? And other limitiations of the
current system?
It's quite annoying when a app changes the desktop resolution, and VNC
dumps out.

Thanks Jeremiah,
I think 5800 is OK as there is only 1 display and it gets the unit number of 0 and I
do reach it to login.

other internet apps work fine. There will be one at the remote end too and it lets

I have no influence over this whatsoever. Could this be causing

The problem is that you have per-user passwords enabled as well as the local

You will likely see an entry under the following path in the registry:

And a different one under
