free vnc is not compatible with fastuserswitching
only the firstlogged in user can connect to the desktop
without getting knocked off the computer

Can you explain what you mean by "graphic quality is impaired"?
VNC Viewer will reduce the colour level of the connection if the connection
appears to be slow, so it may be that forcing the connection to fullc-colour
is what you want.
