Hmmm, I believe that you have the admin rights for your Netgear router.
In that case you have to forward/open ports to the right machine.

I'm running a vnc server in a FreeBSD machine running 5.2.1.
From my usual console I have no problems accessing an X-application
through ssh connection.
The remote system in that case is a SunOS 5.9, and that system is not
running vnc and I don't have admin rights to it.
