Mark, If possible, you could run the SGI desktop environment inside an Xvnc server. Alternatively, if the Xsgi server can support dynamic module loading them you can build the vnc.so module on the SGI machine and then follow the instructions at http://www.realvnc.com/products/enterprise/4.1/x0.ht
