Is the pc you are trying to access (i.e. I am assuming the VNCServer)
behind a firewall (e.g. a hardware router like a Linksys) or is it
connected directly to the internet?

A way to check is to go to a command line prompt on the PC and type:
ipconfig If you get an IP that looks something like: 192.168.x.x
then you are likely behind a firewall. If it looks something like:
68.86.x.x or some other string of numbers like that, chances are you are
connected directly to the internet. There are some other internal IP
address domain IPs, but chances are you have one starting with 192.

If you are behind a firewall:
1. you will need to find the IP address assigned to the firewall/router
by the ISP.
2. In the router, you will need to forward the incoming VNC traffic to
your internal PC IP address and the port upon which you have VNCServer
listening (how this forwarding is done varies depending on your equipment)
3. Then, in your VNCViewer (accessing over the web) you will type in the
ISP assigned IP address and port number (e.g. 68.86.x.x:5900)
4. Note, if you are using a browser to access your VNCServer, in your
router you would also want to foward the port defined as HTTP or Java
applet listener (e.g. typically 5800 by default).
5. Final note, if your client is behind a firewall and trying to access
out across the web the VNC Server, it could fail due to a firewall on the
client side. (frequently happens at work, from hotels, etc.).

If you are not behind a firewall/router
1. Please get one. You are surfing unprotected. Practice safe computing.
You will thank yourself later. There are both hardware and software
versions available (some free software is as www.zonelabs.com).
2. In your VNCViewer, type in the address assigned to the PC (should be
the same as what your IP assigned) along with the VNCServer listening port
(e.g. typically 5900).
3. Same notes as above for browser and client firewall.

The following can help you find out if your VNCServer is accessible from
the web (i.e. is listening for incoming calls). www.gotomyvnc.com

Good luck.

Hi,

How do I access another pc via the web using vnc. Specifically, how do I
uniquely address that pc.

Thanks,
Dion.
