You should be able to switch in & out of full-screen mode by pressing F8 and
then "f".
That did not work for me either. Is there any good reason, why the
Xresources handling is removed from 4.1? Is it removed all together?
Can I compile the source with this feature enable

But (under Linux at least) running in fullscreen mode means the menu
(F8) is not controlled by the window manager a
