Okay, I figured this out.  It was a bad path in my environment for
Solaris.  So, running "vncconfig -nowin &" in my ~/.vnc/xstartup works
for Solaris (with olvwm) too, just like Linux (with gnome).

Yeah, we're phasing out Solaris.  This is just for legacy apps and so I
had planned to just leave people back on olvwm if using Solaris (I also
liked olvwm too, simple, clean and fast).

Hmm. It works for me on Solaris 8 and 10 using CDE as a desktop.
I haven't tried OpenLook (dead interface, although it was always my 
favorite).
