I did it time ago.
Warmed up ~3 hours / Measure value with my 3548A.
Next trimmed to mid of trimmable range (pot to center).
Than trimmed (by shorting step by step) as close as possible to 10.000V.

The pictures show error 9005, means "Serial Interface Error". This is the
typical error, if the Analog-Board is not installed.

For all, working on a modification of the HP-419A:
I have uploaded to my HP-419A share point some high quality schematics, I have

I had the same issue in the beginning (bad online reading with embedded PDF
Reader).
Thus I downloaded the ZIP package and had no issues anymore.
Thus it seems to be an issue of the online reader, not caused by the files.

Hi Randy,
I would be happy to go on with the modification (for the HP 419A).
Will also rout a PCB - plan to use EAGLE (V6) or maybe Altium Designer 14 (not
yet used to).
Any information (ideas, sketches, notes, files...) is highly welcome.
I don't have an account for upload either, thus simply
Hi Greg,
Yes, I am open to sell it.
I guess, 350 EURO plus shipment cost is a fair price.
It would come with the required cables, shielding plate and the srews to mount.
I did a short function test in my 1281 and got plausible values.
So I will give also a DOA guarantee with cash-back, if you
I have one spare (Germany).
The AC option is a board with shields and cables. Simple to plug-in and to
mount at the bottom of the system.
Same as for the current option board.
The 1271/81 detects it when the function is activated.
There is no special requirement or matched version, but for sure
Note: I have also posted at EEVBLOG forum.
In my Datron 1281 (8.5 digit) bench DMM it seems, some of the electrolytics
haved aged and need to be replace. I like to save the CAL-RAM content for
security before working on (A backup is a good idea anyhow, if the battery
drops).
Does anyone know
I had same experiance with DS, even it is free, it not quite professional to
use.
I checked several free available PCB programs. I would recommend KiCAD, but the
free version of EAGLE and the free German program Target 3001 (actual v1.7) I
can also recommend.

Hi Randy,
I have an HP-419A (ser# 948A-06384, seems to be one of the latest revisions
~198x)
I refurbished myself including battery pack (NMiH) and it works not bad.
Just noise in the highest sensivity range isn't sufficiant.
I have a spare HP-419A (ser# 543-00149, one of the olderst revisions
I am searching for the calibration enable key for my Datron 1281.
At EBAY one key for the Wavetek 4808 Calibrator is offered.
Does anybody know if this key fits also to the Datron 1281?
Thanks for Help.
