Have you ever taken a laptop battery apart? Each cell has a separate wire attached for equalization of charge. Since each cell has a slight different of internal resistance, it is necessary to equalize the charge periodically. Tesla does this to all 7400 cells in their car batteries.

Its a Magic Pie with a 48 volt battery and 2KW controller. I have about 1000 miles on it. I took the bike out this spring and the battery was not holding much a charge. It's $600 to replace the 10AH battery. Maybe I can just replace a cell or two in it. With this kind of expense and upkeep the Lithium Ion technology is not yet ready for vehicles. The rear drive bike motors tend to twist out of their retainers, then they twist the wires out, and dramatically fail by shorting out the transistors. The Hull effect transistors in the motor are almost impossible to replace. I am on my third motor. I had the last motor shaft welded to the torque arm. The weld, on hardened steel torque arm, cracked. Lots of money went down the drain fixing and modify the set up. Now the battery is kaput. Perhaps I should walk. It is safer. Frank
