Mike,
/dev/mouse points to gpmdata. (Sorry for the delay. Crunch time at work.)

having switched over to a Logitech Mouseman mouse for a specific task,
I want to switch back to my regular mouse, a RemotePoint, for other tasks.
I have two XF86Config-4's, one for each mouse. The one for the
RemotePoint has worked fine in the past. The one for the Mouseman is the

I occasionally want to switch to a second mouse, which is a Logitech
Mouseman mouse with two buttons and a scroll wheel/button (not cordless)
and have been trying to write a second version of my XF86Config-4 file to
accommodate the new mouse. If I use protocol "microsoft," the cursor

A while back, I posted a question about not being able to forward X11 over
ssh2--the display wasn't getting set. The answer is:
1. I didn't know that sshd had its own config file, sshd_config, which
also has a forward X11 yes/no setting, and
2. sshd does not get reset when you log out, only wh
I'm unable to forward X despite the fact that I used the -X option with
ssh and ForwardX11 is set to yes in ssh_config on the remote machine (on
both machines, actually). I get the error message
Error: Can't open display:
which evidently means that ssh2 has failed to perform its usual magic in

Any more thoughts about how switching to the 2.4.18 kernel might have made
me unable to connect to many hosts? Jeff, you said it had the smell of
a messed up routing table. Have we confirmed this? Do people think that
the firewall is involved?

I came back from the Installfest very happy to finally have X running
(thanks, Mike!) but now have no internet connection. I'm sure it's
something stupid, but I can't figure out what.
My setup: I'm on a fixed IP address, using a DSL line. I have two
ethernet cards.

I have been unable to get X running on my machine with an Intel 82810
graphics card. I'm running the woody version of Debian, with kernel

if you want to see the details. I'm wondering if I should just go out and

Earlier, I wrote to this list saying that I was unable to configure X4 on
a machine with an Intel 82810 graphics card and wondered if I needed to
upgrade my kernel to 2.4.18. All agreed that the upgrade was inevitable,
so I installed kernel-image-2.4.18-686. I ran lilo and rebooted. I then

I recently upgraded to Debian's woody distribution and can no longer
forward X11 info. when I'm logged into a remote machine via ssh.
Here's the situation:

As root, I have access to fonts in a wide variety of sizes, but as a user,
I can only get 10 and 12 point font sizes, which are too small for my
purposes. This suggests that I don't have the permissions set properly
for some file or other, but I can't think what it would be. Ideas?
I'm having trouble running X because my machine is looking for a
.Xauthority file under a non-existent user directory. (It's looking in a
user directory with my surname, but that's not my account name.) 'Twas
not always thus, and I don't know what I did to cause this behavior.
Anyone know how I
