The default is minimal:
charon:~# cat /etc/syslog.conf
*.warning /var/log/messages
And by default, there's no syslog configuration in the Vyatta
configuration file.

All,
In my attempts to log firewall traffic (what I block and log) to another file
or syslog server, I have apparently failed and stopped all firewall logging
attempts. The router/firewall is still working properly, but now instead of

It's hard to tell without the full configuration, but remember that you need
both a route out, as well as the rest of the internet needs to be able to

using an external traceroute; see www.traceroute.org to check and see

Silly me, I am used to working with unix boxes, that part of the brain just
really didn't kick in. What I would like to see is something similar to show
proc mem on Cisco routers:

I/O Pool Total: 67108864 Used: 11891792 F

Seems like a reasonable request. It's very easy to change yourself if you
don't want to wait for a future release. Here's how (assuming vc3):
1) login as root
Well, it probably should - but it's one of those things that if you have
been around unix-like systems for a long time you do the calculations
automatically in your head, and don't think about it. Just like normal
users never think about how filesystems are mounted or dns works, but

Shouldn't the command 'show system memory' be mapped to run through
'free -m' then? I would consider this as a feature enhancement.
I am also in a state of confusion as to why this list insists on sending
the reply address as the sender of the last message..I have to manually

To people who aren't used to dealing with Unix-like systems this is a
common complaint.
What show system memory is really doing is running free.
BTW Vyattans - to avoid this in the future, please consider this a
enhancement request to alias 'show system memory' to 'free -m'

Hi All,
I've noticed some pretty intense memory usage out of my Vyatta router:

Hi again.
Are you sure that the origin address of that "echo reply" is 10.20.20.2 ?
What I mean is that you must have 172.10.5.155 as gateway in your
172.10.0.100 PC and 10.20.20.1 in 10.20.20.2 PC. Or at least, have a
static route in their route tables.
I am annoyed about having an request r
Hi Sergio.
Thanks for the reply. I investigated a bit. I got a PC on 172.10.0.0

Hi Denha.
Check route table and gateway address of your 172.10.0.0/21 machines.
I'm sure they don't know about how to reply packets to 10.20.20.0/24
addresses.
Try it!

Hi all.
I recently set up a vyatta router in a network. What I'd like to do is to create
a separate subnet to put some specific hosts (on 10.20.20.0/24).
I connected the router to my main network (172.10.0.0/21 with a gateway/router
on 172.10.0.5) and this is my current configuration:

Hi,
I have managed to setup the BGP session with my peer and also based on the
topic on Originating a Route to eBGP neighbors to announce my IP ranges. I
have set my eth1 ip to be XX.XX.XX.1/21 and connect one server directly to
eth1 for testing. Setting XX.XX.XX.2 with subnet of 255.255.248.0 an
